VARIOUS APPLICATIONS OF SEAMLESS KNITTING


Seamless garment knitting means creating a complete garment by using several different carriers or feeders either with minimal or no cutting and sewing mechanisms. In seamless garment knitting we do not require post-knit processes like the linking or sewing and cutting processes; therefore, it has the capability of reducing the production time. Seamless knitting also proves to be cost effective. We primarily use seamless garment knitting on the V-bed machine for making apparels. However, in recent years the use of this new three-dimensional seamless knitting technique has become very vast. Many other areas such as fashion, industrial, automotive, upholstery and medical textiles are also using the method of seamless knitting.

1.       Apparels:

Depending on the type of machine and machine gauge, we can create a diverse range of seam-free products like hand gloves, socks, hats, and sweaters by using seamless knitting machines. We can also easily knit those design structures such as cable stitches and even intarsia structures on the seamless garment machines, which we usually knit on the fully-fashioned machines.

By using seamless knitting process, upholstery companies can make three-dimensional polyester seat covers rather than that of woven fabric seat covers, which usually requires the cutting and sewing process. In 1985, Courtaulds and General Motors Corporation developed the technique of three-dimensional seamless knitting to produce the seat covers. Automotive seat covers that we make by using seamless knitting process have a high potential in the automotive market. The three-dimensional seamless knitting process reduces the lead time as it does not include the cut-and-sew operations. The method of seamless knitting adds quality to the seat covers and also brings down the warranty costs. When we use the process of seamless knitting for making the automotive seat covers, then we also have the benefit of designing a more ergonomic seat as we can quickly change the size of the knitted tube.

4.       Medical textiles

We can apply the textiles formed by the seamless knitting process of three-dimensional flat bed knitting machines for medical purposes. By using seamless knitting process, we can make tubular type knitted structures like bandages, medical compressions, orthopaedic supports and stockings.
