Working of Knitting Machine Parts - Bharat Machinery Works


With the help of knitting machine, the hosiery garments & fabrics produced. It is similar to the traditional method of knitting in which loops of yarn are formed and connected them with various types of knits.  
Different types of needles used to make garments of different design & purpose. These machines can classify into further categories by depending upon the number of needles existing per unit length of the needle cylinder. For determining the needle cylinder length, one of the extensive systems named as English Inch used, i.e. 1 inch = 25.4 mm. In USSR, the range of gauge in knitting machines varies from 3 to 36. If the gauge is higher, then the produced fabric is more delicate. Let us suppose if we have to knit super delicate stockings, then we use 34-gauge machines; Gauge signifies the spacing between the needles in the cylinder which in this case is 0.75 mm.

Different parts of a knitting machine:


The main components of a knitting machine consist of a looper, the take-up motion and the yarn feed motion.  

The looper comprises of a needle cylinder with the needles, a presser, sinkers, yarn guides and some extra components. Within the gap of needles, usually, one sinker is present. With the help of complex shape blades, sinker folds the yarn to form loops. If static needles can be used, then the sinker along with the shaft of needles move the yarn. On the other hand, if needles are not stationary, then sinker can be used to hold the Yarn. Then the attached presser in the shape of a plate or disk is pressed on the needle hook is used to prevent the loops from failing into the hook.

Working of knitting Machine:


The first step is to lay down the yarn on the needles, then the yarn feed motion along with the yarn guides, take-up motions, brakes and other components creates a persistent tension. For each row of the loop, the length of the yarn can be measured. The knitting machines are of two types: weft knitting machine or warp knitting machine. If we are using the weft machines, then the yarn feed in the form of individual strands, but in warp machines, the groups of yarn feed onto the needles. The take-up motion also draws the final product along with maintaining a persistent tension. 
The weight of the take-up motion can create a tension which helps in drawing off the finished material. Rollers can also use to draw the knitted fabric. The mechanisms help in controlling the feed consistency, the tension between the yarns along with the proper functioning of the needles automate the process of knitting. This automating knitting procedure also helps to fix any occurring errors during the process of knitting.

In contemporary machines, various unique mechanisms are available which helps in transferring the loops along with altering the width of the cloth quickly, form separate rows of loops also create complex or three-dimensional shapes in fabrics as well as can change the density of the knit. Different types of electronic control devices are available which used to select or introduce the needles in knitting patterns, and open-work weaves. 

In our company, we commonly use circular knitting machines or Flat knitting machines for knitting fabrics because these machines contain miniature carding devices in every loop-forming system. These small carding devices are capable of knitting the tufts of long fibres in the form of loops to form a nap. In warp-type knitting machines, the knitting machines productivity ranges to 3.74 million loops per min, whereas in circular hosiery knitting machines it is 1.44 million loops per min.
